Day 224 Sun Sept. 7 Reflection
This passage stood out for me today - along with the comment: "Talk to God, acknowledging that HE is pulling your wagon."
But he never acknowledged my help,
never admitted that I was the one pulling his wagon,
That I lifted him, like a baby, to my cheek,
that I bent down to feed him. Hosea 11: 3 MSG
I taught Israel to walk.
I took them up in my arms.
But they did not realize
I was the one who took care of them. Hosea 11:3 NiRv

Day 217 Sun Aug. 31 Reflection
This week, as we read the many lists and details in 1 Chronicles, this passage jumped off the page for me:
“But me--who am I, and who are these my people, that we should presume to be giving something to you? Everything comes from you; all we’re doing is giving back what we’ve been given from your generous hand. As far as you’re concerned, we’re homeless, shiftless wanderers like our ancestors, our lives mere shadows, hardly anything to us. God, our God, all these materials—these piles of stuff for building a house of worship for you, honoring your Holy Name--it all came from you! It was all yours in the first place! I know, dear God, that you care nothing for the surface—you want us, our true selves—and so I have given from the heart, honestly and happily. And now see all these people doing the same, giving freely, willingly—what a joy! O God, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep this generous spirit alive forever in these people always, keep their hearts set firmly in you. And give my son Solomon an uncluttered and focused heart so that he can obey what you command, live by your directions and counsel, and carry through with building The Temple for which I have provided.” 1 Chronicles 29:14-19 MSG
I was reminded again how everything - my stuff, my money, my time - even the love I give to God was all a gift I first received from him!

Day 210 Sun Aug. 24 Reflection
1 Chronicles 10:10,11 MSG These are the chiefs of David’s Mighty Men, the ones who linked arms with him as he took up his kingship, with all Israel joining in, helping him become king in just the way God had spoken regarding Israel.
This was the question at the end of Friday's readings:
Who have you "linked arms" with lately, helping them become what God designed them to be?
How has it been going for you with the readings this week? Are you hanging in there??
As I have been listening to all these names in family trees from 1 Chronicles this week, I was reminded of how each one was a real live person, made by God. Maybe they are unknown to me, but they NOT unknown to God, and we, along with all of them, are part of His story.
This post on the importance of people spoke to me as well: http://catchjohnfischer.wordpress.com/2014/08/14/people-matter/
We are challenged with contrasts this week, as we move from Luke back to the Old Testament, finishing Amos and then on to 1 Chronicles, with a side order of Song of Songs as well! If you're like me - you may find some of this difficult reading --- all those lists of names, for example. I was reminded in Eugene Peterson's introduction to 1 Chronicles that " there is no true storytelling without names". This week, I pray you are reminded that God knows YOUR name.
But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:1 NLT.

Day 203 Sun Aug. 17 Reflection
Luke15: 4-7 “Suppose one of you had a hundred sheep and lost one. Wouldn’t you leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the lost one until you found it? When found, you can be sure you would put it across your shoulders, rejoicing, and when you got home call in your friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Celebrate with me! I’ve found my lost sheep!’ Count on it—there’s more joy in heaven over one sinner’s rescued life than over ninety-nine good people in no need of rescue.
