Discovering the Gospel of Luke

Chapter 8: 1-18

1. Why do you think Jesus encouraged women to be His disciples even though it was counter-cultural? What does this say about God? What is the significance of these women as disciples (from different social standing) who ALSO supported Jesus ministry with their personal resources?

2. In Jesus’ allegory about seeds, where do most of the seeds land? What does the good soil represent? How does good soil show that it is good soil? What might ‘producing a huge harvest’ look like in our lives today? What do the four soil types say about people?

4. In the progression of the 3 stories, Jesus highlights that there are 3 kinds of people that respond differently to hearing the message about the kingdom of heaven (verses 10, 18 and 21). What are the three responses? (Hint: begins with those that hear and don’t understand). What point is Luke making in telling it this way?
